LEADja Response & Recovery Update

Supporting Communities After Hurricane Melissa
In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, communities across Jamaica have faced tremendous loss—damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods, blocked roads, and limited access to essential resources. At LEADja, we stand with our people not only in the immediate aftermath but through every stage of long-term recovery. Over the past weeks, our volunteers and local partners have been on the ground delivering critical support, especially to communities most affected and hardest to reach.

Our Response So Far

Through the collective efforts of our team, partners, and donors, LEADja has:

Essential Supplies

  • Distributed emergency relief packages including food, water, hygiene kits, and baby care supplies
  • Assisted community centers and shelters with essential items and resources

Family Support

  • Supported families displaced by flooding and structural damage

Community-Led Recovery Efforts

We believe that meaningful recovery must be community-driven. Our approach includes:

Rebuilding Together

  • Partnering with grassroots organizations to rebuild stronger and smarter
  • Supporting repairs to damaged homes and community spaces
  • Continuing to work with donors, volunteers, and national partners to expand recovery efforts

Education Focus

  • Providing back-to-school assistance for children impacted by displacement
  • Collaborating with the Department of Education to restore and rebuild affected schools

What’s Next: Rebuilding for the Future

LEADja has now identified multiple hurricane-damaged schools in urgent need of repair. Building on the impact you’ve already helped create, we are preparing to:

  • Repair and rebuild damaged school facilities
  • Donate essential school supplies and educational equipment
  • Help students return to safe, functional learning environments

Your continued support will help move these communities from emergency relief to long-term recovery.
